MCWD Customers:
We have already received numerous calls for frozen water on the customer’s side and inside the meter base. We have restored services to the affected customers. With extreme cold temperatures, snowfall, and potential ice forecasts for our area, we encourage customers to take a few simple steps to help prevent frozen water lines and meters:
- Protect your meter box – Insulate with straw, cardboard, foam board, towels, or other insulating materials.
- Drip faucets – Allow a small, steady drip from faucets during extreme cold to keep water moving.
- Seal drafts – Close foundation vents and seal openings where cold air can reach plumbing.
- Know your shutoff – Be aware of where your main shutoff valve is located, in case of a break.
Please keep in mind, throughout the storm, we will be limited to respond to all calls and will be only responding to emergencies until it is safe for our utility workers to be on the road. In the event of a water or sewer-related emergency, please call MCWD immediately on 606-298-7439.
Thank you,
MCWD
